5 Tips of Desk Etiquette to Follow!

Desk Etiquette

We generally think that being polite to the office colleagues is the only thing we should concern about when we are in the office. But it’s not true; there are several other things you should keep in mind. Here we have listed 5 major tips on desk etiquette that one should follow. This would surely help you in your way.

Keep your desk clean and hygienic.

Think of a workstation with tea or coffee stains everywhere, food grains scattered around the desk, water or ink spread on the papers, a thick layer of dust on keyboard and mouse and a complete dusty floor! Would you really want to work? No way! Your workplace is the only place where you spend maximum time of your day. So, treat it as your home and keep it clean and hygienic!

Stay organized.

If you are the most sensible employee of your company, then your desk etiquette must reflect it. Try to keep everything organized at your office workstation as much as you can. Put all the essential things, such as markers, papers, pens, highlighters etc at the right place. If there is anything useless and you don’t need it in future, throw it away. After all, dustbins are meant for this purpose only. Right?

Stop eating or smoking at your desk.

Having your lunch or other snack items at your desk is another bad thing. It not only make your desk unhygienic, but also lures other colleagues to come at your desk. Make sure to throw the wrappers or boxes of packaged food items in the dustbins. Also, never make a habit of doing smoking at your work station.

Don’t cover your desk with personal items.

Never ever make a habit of putting your personal items on the desk every time you come to office. Be it your stylish bag or your wallet, always keep them inside the drawer. If you carry other personal things, such as Bluetooth, headphone, car key, etc. with you, make it a point not to keep them on your workstation.

Avoid taking phone calls.

It’s not a good thing to take personal calls while sitting at the workstation. However, if it’s the only way, try to speak in low volume. Also, don’t spend too much time on phone calls. Attending personal calls during office hours is a strict No.

So these are the few tips on desk etiquette from my side. If you have any other, please feel free to mention here.  We would love to hear from you.
